afield* Art meets everyday life in

* afield is an ongoing art program combining curation, production, rotating displays and online sales

An encounter doesn’t just happen

afield began with a conversation with an artist friend. Even after a work is finished, finding the right way to promote it—and the right place to show it—is rarely easy. Later, in a Taiwanese restaurant, we noticed posters and photographs introducing Indigenous Taiwanese culture alongside paintings by friends of the owner. They had become a natural part of the room.

That restaurant made something clear: art does not have to enter everyday life as a formal exhibition. It can begin by being present where people eat, talk and spend time.

afield grew from that thought.
